Hair Extension

What are Hair Extensions?

Many people do not know exactly what hair extensions are. It is no wonder due to all the variations of hair extension products and applications on the market today. Simply put, hair extensions are strands of synthetic or human hair that can be weaved, braided, or glued to one’s own natural hair to create desired length and/or volume.

What is the uptown girl hair extension process & technique?

The process begins with an exchange of information, with a vision towards the desired style. There are choices of hair types in every length, volume, texture and natural color combinations possible. Our hair extensions are strands of human hair (not synthetic) placed onto a person’s hair in order to elongate or thicken existing hair. A micro-attachments made of keratin wax, filled with hair, is placed one-quarter inch away from the scalp. Within a 3-4 hour timeframe, a head of hair will be transformed into longer, thicker hair. While others use techniques such as welding, waxing, gluing, or knotting, which strain and very often damage your hair to a high degree, our process is based on a much more gentle principle: heat bonding and /or modulating. We have created an extremely high-tech method of bonding between the strand and your own hair. It is activated by out applicator and bonds the strand with your own hair in this way. It can, however, be easily removed by an expert. Most important of all: your own hair is not damaged in the process.

What is the life expectancy of extensions?

Most extensions, if applied properly, will last between 4-6 months. Afterward, this special glue-like bond attached to your natural hair will begin to loosen and fall off. How long extensions are kept and how often they are reapplied is a personal decision.

How do you care for hair extensions?

Hair extensions can care for the same way as caring for your own natural hair. Hair extensions do as a rule degrade with normal care. Redoing your hair extensions will be necessary when your own hair grows out. It is recommended that you use high-quality hair care products to extend the vitality of your hair extensions.

Permanent Makeup FAQ

Who applies the permanent cosmetics?

All our procedures are applied by Barb Perez who is a NY State licensed and certified technician in Permanent Makeup. Additionally, Barb is an experienced makeup artist with advanced training in makeup artistry and years of experience in the micro pigmentation field.

Who benefits from permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup is a beautiful investment in yourself and is ideal for anyone who desires a soft, natural enhancement to their appearance. Active people who want to look their best for activities without worrying about sweating it off or reapplying cosmetics and for anyone who wants to conserve time on their makeup routine. Because Barb is also a master in makeup artistry she will work with one’s facial features to determine optimal results in the shape (especially critical for permanent eyebrows) as well as a careful color selection that will be the most flattering for your skin and hair tones.

What if I want to change my makeup?

Barb will work with your natural facial features to enhance them to their fullest. This natural, flawless look allows you to apply cosmetics over your “Permanent Makeup” for color variety.

How long does the procedure take?

The topical anesthetic takes 20+ minutes to numb the area. The procedure itself takes approximately 1-2.5 hours contingent upon the area being treated. This includes the initial outline that will be drawn and shown to you for approval prior to any pigment being applied.

Is it painful?

A topical medical grade anesthetic is applied prior to each procedure to eliminate any discomfort. Every client is different, some will feel vibrating or scratching, and some will feel nothing at all. Barb is very sensitive to a client’s discomfort and thus does her best to make your experience as pleasant and relaxing as possible.

How safe is cosmetic tattooing?

We must follow strict hygiene and sterilization procedures that conform to OSHA and CDC guidelines. By using only disposable tools, our clients know that anything that touches them has never been touched anyone else. For clients with sensitive skin, a test patch may also be performed.

What is the recovery time?

You can go back to work right after the procedure. But you may have slight swelling, particularly if having the lip and eyeliner area treated. The initial color looks 20-30% stronger than the final result. We recommend applying bacitracin during your healing period. Small scabs will form which will fall off naturally during the 4-7 day healing period. An aftercare form will be provided upon service completion.

How long will results last?

Some clients will need a touch-up or “color refresher” in 2-5 years, depending on the original color selection (darker colors tend to last longer). Results will vary by age, skin tone, exfoliation process, sun exposure and degree of care taken to maintain the procedure.

Will permanent makeup fade over time?

Exposure to sunlight or UV light will fade permanent makeup to some extent. Also, the use of glycolic, Retin A, and facial lasers will have effects on permanent makeup. However, with proper care, your permanent makeup will last for years. Upon your consultation, Barb will review with you everything you need to know for optimal long-lasting results.

How are the colors and shapes determined?

We offer a wide array of colors to suit your color preference, as well as custom blended colors perfected by Barb. The exact colors and shapes you desire will be fully discussed during your consultation.

Can I change the shape and color after initial application?

Yes. We recommend all new clients to return to our clinic for a complimentary “perfection check-up.” This second visit allows our clients to decide if their color and design is the permanent look they desire. During this complimentary touch-up visit, Barb will sometimes add or slightly change a color, or even balance and enhance the initial details. Rest assured, we won’t stop until you are satisfied as that is our Uptown Girl guarantee!

Eyelash Extension

How does it work?

The entire procedure usually takes about two hours. First, you’ll lie down while an eyelash extension specialist uses surgical tape to hold down your bottom lashes, which aren’t used in the procedure. Then, individual synthetic fiber lashes are dipped one by one into a bonding agent and applied to your existing individual lashes. The procedure is painless, even relaxing.

Will they damage my lashes?

Eyelash Extensions are safe to use because the glue does not touch the lash or eyelid. And there’s no rule against wearing them with contact lenses. Because they are attached to the natural eyelash they will not damage last growth. You just can’t pull at them. We offer lash removal that will ensure your natural lash is not damaged should you decide you want to go back to a natural!

How long do they last?

Your lash extensions will last anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks depending on the growth cycle of your natural eyelashes. The growth cycle consists of three stages; growing phase, resting phase, and the shedding phase. Because natural eyelashes shed and replace themselves on their own, regular touch-ups are usually recommended to replace any strays that have fallen out during this growth cycle. The lifespan of an eyelash varies by individual, anywhere from 2 weeks to three months, but for maximum results, regular touch-ups (recommended every 2-2 1/2 weeks) will provide optimal results. With good maintenance programs, many clients keep their extensions year round!

How do I care for them?

It’s critical to avoid getting your lashes wet with water, oils or creams in the first 24 hours. Avoid pulling and rubbing lashes when washing your face. Toss out your eye makeup, use a non-oily makeup remover instead of a cleanser. We have several products we can recommend.

What about overall look, length, and colors?

Eyelash extensions create more drama than mascara, but still look fresh and natural. You’ll look the wide-eyed first thing in the morning and throughout the day! Eyelash extensions come in an assortment of lengths depending on personal preference. A full set of extensions can lengthen your lashes up to 50% and will thicken them by 30 to 50%. You can also choose different colors. We recommend black or brown, depending on your coloring and the effect you crave.

How much do they cost?

Eyelash extensions can run you anywhere from $250 to $900 in today’s market. Uptown girl charges $400 for a full set. In addition, optimal maintenance requires touch-ups that are recommended every 2-3 1/2 weeks for $60/:30 minutes, $120/hr.. Your lashes can have much or of an effect than a French manicure every two weeks. You decide. Not everyone is blessed with naturally luscious lashes. Eyelash extensions are a gift to give yourself, so consider them for a test run. 90% of first-time customers become regular clients.
